The South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO) is alarmed about the attack on journalist Milan Jovanovic (Milana Jovanović) in Serbia. Milan Jovanovic’s home in the Belgrade suburb Grocka was badly damaged by a fire yesterday on 12 December. The fire was started by Molotov cocktails. Milan Jovanovic and his wife were home at the time. They escaped unhurt by getting out through a back window. Jovanovic is working for the webportal Žig info (https://ziginfo.rs/). SEEMO is asking the authorities in Serbia to start a fast investigation in this case.

Today in the morning hours, in the part of Belgrade Lestane, the editor in cihef of Žig Info Željko Matorčević was attacked. A young man, about 20 years old, followed Matorcevic a few hundred meters and then hit him in the back of the head.

The South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO) is alarmed about the arrest of three journalists from the Greek daily newspaper Fileleftheros on defamation charges. The publisher Thanassis Mavridis, editor-in-chief Panayiotis Lampsias and political editor Katerina Galanou spent a night in jail.

“The detention was the result of a criminal defamation charges by the Minister of Defence relating to a story about the alleged misuse of European Union funds

The Minister filed charges also against four other journalists from the newspaper.

“Greece must urgently decriminalize defamation” said Oliver Vujovic, SEEMO Secretary General.
