30.11.2023 – SEEMO Condemns Ongoing Threats and Financial Harassment Against Kyrgyz Investigavite Journalist Bolot Temirov

The South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO) vehemently condemns the persistent threats and intimidation directed at investigative journalist Bolot Temirov (Болот Темиров), marking one year since his unlawful deportation to Russia on 23 November 2022 after the Bishkek City Court found Bolot Temirov guilty of document fraud.

Despite finding a safe country Europe where he lives now, Temirov remains under constant threats. The Kyrgyz authorities, accused of previously revoking Temirov’s nationality, are currently implementing financial restrictions, specifically targeting accounts linked to the Temirov Live YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/temirovlive).

On 12 September 2023, the Kyrgyz Supreme Court affirmed the decision to revoke Bolot Temirov’s nationality and rejected a complaint on the judgement.

SEEMO urges Kyrgyz authorities to stop the pressure on Bolot Temirov and reinstate his Kyrgyz nationality. SEEMO condemns the threats to Temirov’s physical well-being, the financial restrictions affecting his investigative activities, and the broader environment of oppression targeting independent media in Kyrgyzstan.
