On Thursday 23 March 2023 the City Court in Minsk, Belarus, sentenced Gennady Nikolayevich Mozheyko (Генадзь Мікалаевіч Мажэйка /Gennady Nikolayevich Mazheyka) a former reporter for Komsomolskaya Pravda to three years penitentiary for inciting social hatred and insulting Belarus President Alyaksandr Ryhoravich Lukashenka .
The charges against Mazheyka were related to his article and comments posted on social media about a shooting in Minsk in late September 2021 in which an IT worker and a state security official died. The article was removed from the newspaper’s web quickly. After this incident Komsomolskaya Pravda closed its office in Belarus.
