Today 24 years ago, on 11 April 1999, Slavko Curuvija, owner of the newspaper “Dnevni Telegraf” and the weekly magazine “Evropljanin”, was killed in front of his home in the center of Belgrade, Serbia. The article headlined “Curuvija welcomes the bombs”, was published in the Serbian daily “Politika ekspres” on 6 April 1999, five days before journalist Slavko Curuvija was killed. According to different sources, this article was ordered by Mirjana Markovic, wife of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic. Leading regime and state-controlled media quoted in a campaign against Curuvija the article. Till today the legal process against the attackers and former members of the state security is not closed.
