Vienna, 24 August 2017 – The South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO) expressed distress for the safety and wellbeing of journalists in the South East Europe region after a recent physical attack on a journalist in Macedonia.
NovaTV’s journalist Sashka Cvetkovska was attacked on 23 August while she was reporting from an event. The gathering in question was organized as part of an initiative to assemble signatures and prevent the building of refugee camps.
SEEMO expressed harsh criticism for the lax approach of authorities in Skopje who fail to protect the safety of journalists. SEEMO welcomes the fast reaction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which identified the attacker and announced criminal charges for violence against the attacker.
